Everett W Pierson Sr, 82 of Port Norris passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 24, 2022. He was the son of the late William (Bill) Pierson and Gladys (Alloway) Pierson and had resided in Port Norris the majority of his life. Everett was a Millwright by trade. He worked on various jobs including local prisons, the route 55 overpasses, parking garages throughout Atlantic City, the Millville dam, and Salem nuclear power plant, to name a few. In 2013, he completed 50 years of continuous membership to achieve Honorary Member in the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, Local Union 121. In Everett’s younger years, he served in the Air National Guard and was stationed at Fort Drum in NY. He was a Special Police Officer in Commercial Township and also assisted State Police on several assignments throughout Cumberland County. He earned top scorer of the Auxiliary Police and highest score of the Fire Police Members. Everett’s love for the water was evident to all who knew him. He was a commercial oysterman, crabber and fisherman and lived for striper season. During the flood in the early 1960’s he used his boat to rescue people and shuttled them to safety in Port Norris. Each year for Bay Day, he would offer up his boat as well as himself to assist with the boat parade along the river and whatever else was needed. He served as Captain for the 1969 Greater Millville United Fund Campaign, was sponsored by the Rotary Club for the 1953 Soap Box Derby, and was Partner in the J&E Printing business in Port Norris. Everett was a member of the Port Norris Fire Company and Rescue Squad for many years, earning Lifetime Member status as well as being honored for outstanding service as Assistant Chief in prior years. Left to cherish his memory are his daughter Beverly Tomlin and her husband Bruce with whom he shared a special bond; his son Everett (Bill) Pierson Jr (Kim); Grandchildren: Daina Kiley (Patrick Hines), Matthew Kiley Jr (Chrissy), Bill and Christopher Pierson; Great Grandchildren: Kerigan and Madison Kiley, Alec, Carson and Elizabeth Pierson; his wife Barbara and Step Children Donna, Lou and Kenny Turner. In addition to his parents, Everett was predeceased by his wife Joan (High) Pierson and his sister Frances Catlett. Funeral services will be held at Hoffman Funeral Homes 2507 High St. Port Norris, on Tuesday May 31, 2022 at 11:00 AM. Interment will be in Haleyville Cemetery. A viewing will be held Tuesday from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Port Norris Fire Co. P.O. Box 115 Port Norris, NJ 08349.
