Doris L. Reeves

Doris Lore Reeves of Port Elizabeth, New Jersey, died peacefully on January 1, 2021 at age 100 years, 7 months, and 16 days. She was born in Dividing Creek, New Jersey. Her mother was Edith L. Becker (d. 1988). The wife of the late Herbert M. Reeves (d. 1994), Mrs. Reeves lived in Port Elizabeth most of her life. She was an avid seamstress and taught quilting at many places in South Jersey. She belonged to the Garden Patch Quilters. In 1999, Mrs. Reeves was honored for her over 25 years of service as a member of the Cumberland County Family and Consumer Services Advisory Council sponsored by the Rutgers Cooperative Extension Service. Mrs. Reeves was an active member of the Port Elizabeth United Methodist Church. Over the many years, she served in various offices at the local-, district-, and conference-level. She led a children’s choir for 22 years. Mrs. Reeves worked at Kimble Glass in Vineland and Armstrong Cork Company in Millville. She was the secretary-treasurer of H. M. Reeves, Inc., of Port Elizabeth. Mrs. Reeves had 2 daughters; Rebecca L. Garton and her husband David C. Garton, of Port Elizabeth, New Jersey, and Patricia R. Davidson (d. 2020) and her husband Robert L. Davidson, of Leesburg, Florida. She had 7 grandchildren, Herbert D. Garton, Rebecca L. Rizzo, Susan L. Hannah, Maurice D. Garton, Robert C. Davidson, Cassandra D. Charlesworth, and Keith G. Davidson; 13 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren, making for 5 generations of a large, loving family. Mrs. Reeves had 3 sisters; Rebecca Loper (d. 2018) of Vero Beach, Florida, and Janis Barry, of Woodstown, New Jersey, and Muriel Becker (d.1998) of Lawrence Township, New Jersey; with 5 nieces and 2 nephews. The funeral will be held at the Port Elizabeth United Methodist Church on Saturday January 9, 2021 at 11:00 AM and will be followed by interment at the church cemetery. Friends will be received at the church one hour prior to the service. In following state protocols and limited gatherings, please maintain distancing, and be mindful of other attendees wishing to pay their respects as well. Social distancing and face masks are required.
